Nearly New Sale

This year our main fundraising event of the year, the Nearly New Sale, will be held on Saturday 12th November in Longstone School Hall 10:30am - 12noon.  FREE ENTRY!!!
Purchases by cash or cheque only.

Please fill in the form below if you'd like a seller's pack emailed out to you.  We aim to send these within a day of receiving your form so if it looks like you have not received anything, please check your spam folder as you will have received an email from email@greatlongstonepreschool.org.uk with an attachment and email programs may file this under spam/trash.

If you don't wish to be a seller but have items which you would otherwise donate to charity, please get in touch and donate them to us (we are a registered charity) so we can try to sell them and raise some extra funds.

Tips for sellers......

  • Our best-sellers by far are toys for children aged 2-7.  Toys such as lego, duplo, brio, happyland etc will sell especially well.
  • Please ensure your items are clean and in working order.  If selling battery-operated items, you do not need to supply batteries but please make sure they work.
  • Label your items securely as this is the only way we will know what to charge and, more importantly, who to pass the money on to.
  • Ensure loose pieces and sets are kept together securely; they will have to withstand a lot of rummaging.
  • If selling a large piece of equipment or toy, it may be worth mentioning the retail price for the new item to help make the sale.
  • People do not usually wish to purchase cot mattresses.
  • Clothing-wise, dressing-up clothes, coats and snowsuits sell well, as do designer/branded outfits but people don't tend to buy baby vests/sleepsuits, supermarket brand clothes or anything that looks too well-worn.
  • You can collect any unsold items after the sale between 1pm and 1:30pm or we will happily donate them on to charity on your behalf. (see below for details)

Tips for buyers.....

  • Come along early as the best items are often snapped up first.... BUT do stick around to rummage as it is amazing what gems you can unearth.
  • Towards the end of the sale, many items are reduced in price so if you stick around until the end, you'll get even bigger bargains.
  • We always have a huge amount of baby equipment in great condition on sale - we've had moses baskets, cots, slings, walkers, buggies etc in the past.  Great to save a bit of money at such an expensive time or even to buy as spares to keep at grandparents house.
  • Our sale is a great place to pick up stocking-fillers (or even main Christmas presents at stocking-filler prices)
  • If you take the time to look through the rails and tables of clothes, you'll find some fantastic stuff at incredible prices.
  • Feel free to leave items with us at the till while you search for more.

Where we donate unsold items:

Families Together
Unsold toys and equipment will go to 'Families Together', an organisation based in Sheffield which works with disadvantaged families (especially those where there is alcohol or substance abuse involved) and provides counselling, information and support; a small part of which is providing toys and equipment and trying to encourage families to reuse and recycle.

Hope for Refugees
Last year we donated lots of clothes to Matlock-based group "Hope for Refugees" who are attempting to help refugees by travelling out to Kos with vans full of clothing, shoes and equipment for those fleeing from Syria.
If donations are still required by this group we will support them again.

Longstone School
Each year, Longstone school puts together a collection of unwanted textiles which are purchased by 'Bag2School' who pay them £400 per tonne.
Any unsold clothing which is not required by Hope for Refugees will be added to Longstone School's collection for Bag2School.
