Summary for Week Ending 24/6/22

24/6/2022

Hi everyone!
What a hot, sweaty week! Thank you to everyone for remembering sun cream and sun hats. It was much appreciated.

Remember our magic beans? They're coming home with the children this week.
As they get bigger they would like a bigger pot and a cane to spiral up.
Hopefully we will all get some runner beans to eat! We loved planting them and seeing how they have grown with the help of water, soil and sunshine.

We’ve spent lots of time out on the path keeping as cool as possible.
We set up some water play outside to help keep us cool!
We explored the water toys and worked out how to make the wheels spin. We loved the pipettes and squirting the water back out was great fun.
In the sand tray we added some animals that would like to live in this hot weather.
We loved seeing a different side to small world play outside in a malleable resource like sand.
We made a zoo with enclosures for the animals using our mark making skills. Do you like it?

On Friday we have enjoyed the magnet blocks. We followed the instruction cards to make some really interesting models.
Some children got creative and made-up models from their own imaginations.
In the afternoon we began working on a big group picture which we are calling "a few of our favourite things". We've started by stamping on lots of things we love in paint. We chose: dinosaurs, the sunshine, aeroplanes, tractors, flowers and an owl to name a few.
We will continue this next week and hopefully turn it into a new wall display.

For our maths development we had to match up the dinosaurs to their ages. For our literacy development we have enjoyed lots of books both independently and as a group. We found chilling out with a nice story a great way to keep cool.

In our role play, we LOVED recreating the story of Little Rabbit Foo Foo. We took turns in being the rabbit, the good fairy and all the different animals. It was so funny while the grown-ups read the book.

For snack this week we have been enjoying bagels, apples, banana, strawberries and yogurts.

Dates to remember: Sports Day is on Monday 4th July at 11am up on the sports field. The Leaver’s Service is on Wednesday 20th July at 11am in the pre-school building. Our last day of term for summer is Friday 22nd July. We reopen for children on Monday 5th September.

Hi everyone!
This week we have been making some special cards for the Daddies in our lives. We used lots of different shapes to make them and we can’t wait for you to see them! We did cutting, and gluing to make our designs. We think our daddies are “out of this world”…

We have been looking at representing numbers with marks. We used the whiteboards. We looked at the numbers on the number line and the numbers on a ruler to help us.

We’ve done lots of construction this week. We’ve used the stickle bricks, the blocks and the lego as well as a new toy brought in by one of our friends which we have been loving.

We’ve loved playing with the new role play kitchen we were given last week and this has really reignited our love of that area. We’ve had some fantastic pasta restaurants and pizza parlours.

We’ve spent lots of time out on the path enjoying the nice weather. We’ve talked about how important it is to stay safe in the sun and that we need sun cream and to be drinking lots of water. We know about staying in the shade.

For our maths development we had to put people into the correct numbered house in our village. They had been hard at work and were going home and we had to find their houses.

For snack this week we have been enjoying bagels, cream cheese and breadsticks, apple, yogurt and strawberries.

We have made it to the final half term before the big summer holiday!
This term we will be doing lots of things to get us ready for big school. We have lots of visits to school planned to meet our teacher. We will also be using our pre-school garden lots to get us used to the school grounds.

This week we have enjoyed playing with the lego, dolls and kitchen.
We’d enjoyed lots of different puzzles and games which make us work together as a team to complete them. This is great for our social development.
For maths this week we drove our cars to different roads… the roads were shapes! We had to find the square, circle, rectangle, diamond and pentagon road and park up on the grass.
We also looked at time by exploring the clocks.
We looked at the letters in our names through our jolly phonics and have had lots of different mark making tools out to practice writing our names.
In the nick of time (we lost another door this week!) we have been kindly donated a wonderful new play kitchen for inside the pre-school! It is great -it  has taps and even a working timer!
We practiced the egg and spoon race, the bean bag race and the jumping race for our sports day!

For snacks this week we have enjoyed strawberries, yogurt, apple and crackers and cheese.

We have a committee meeting in the tap room of the White Lion on Tuesday 14th June at 7.30pm – all are welcome!

Summary for Week Ending 27th May 2022

27/5/2022

Hi everyone!
This week we have been really busy. We took our construction play and mark making outside. We used the chalks and built wondering buildings with blocks.

We played in the kitchen, with the big trucks AND in the sand!
We played with the cars and track. We also played with the dolls.

On Monday, Miss Naylor came to visit us from big school. She read us a really funny story about a bear who wants to be a bumblebee. It was great to meet someone who will be looking after us when we go to reception.
This week for our maths play we have been looking at colours and patterns. We used the linking elephants and some small, coloured cubes to see what we could make.

One of our magic beans has begun to sprout! We were so excited. They have gone home with Amber for a week to get watered.
We’ve made some super creations on the path with the chalks. We made a village and we all made a house with windows and a chimney! We drew paths joining them up together.

Is there anything better than a cardboard box for sparking imagination? On Friday we made it into a boat. We used the packaging paper inside to make the ocean and drew waves and sharks!

Remember that next week is half term. Monday 6th June is an INSET day so we will see you all on Tuesday 7th June.
Enjoy the jubilee weekend!

Amber and Paula 😊

20/5/2022

Hi everyone!
This week the lovely weather is back so we’ve been spending lots of time out on the path, in the garden and going for walks.
This week we are learning about how plants grow. We have talked about the things they need to grow like soil, water and sunshine.
We've looked at the different parts of the plants.
We are starting to plant some runner beans! We can't wait to see how they sprout and grow. At summer, we will take them home and carry on growing them in our gardens!
(For our friends on holiday, don't worry, we have started a bean for you to water when you get back!)

We have been looking at the different things we can make from shapes. For example, if we put a triangle on a square it looks like a house with a roof! One child noticed that 3 triangles arranged in the right way looked like half a hexagon!

For our mark making we have been using the paintbrushes in water outside. We can make all sorts of pictures and watch them vanish again as the water dries!

On Wednesday we did some amazing team work to put together some tricky floor puzzles. We kept going back for more and were so excited when we had a new one completed to show our friends.

On Thursday we build some amazing enclosures with the duplo. Lots of children did this and by the time it was tidy up time we had made a village on the carpet!

On Friday we played with the cars and garage, watching them zoom off the garage and land at the bottom.

For snacks this week we have been enjoying hot cross bun, strawberries, yogurt and cream cheese and breadsticks.

One more week until half term!
Amber and Paula 😊

Summary for Week Ending 13th May 2022

13/5/2022

Hi everyone!
This week we’ve really been enjoying the role play kitchen, the dolls and the barbies and fairies. It’s been so nice to watch all the children playing alongside each other in similar games. We’ve used lots of vocabulary and helped each other to expand on the game narrative.
This week we started practicing for our Sports Day.
On Tuesday we went up to the big field at the park and practiced running, jumping, and skipping to the finish line. We will let you know a date for Sports Day and a few other things that are happening soon.
On Wednesday Cheryl came to play with us and it was great. She showed us how to make finger puppets and we got really creative on the crafty table. We were inspired by a Jack and Jill storybook.
On Thursday we went on a walk around the village and ended up having a quick go on the park.
We also looked at writing the big letters on our names on a whiteboard all together on the carpet.
On Friday we played with the animals, blocks and cars. We also enjoyed playing a game together called Knickerbocker Glory where we had to roll the dice and match up the numbers to the toppings on our ice cream! Group games like this are brilliant for encouraging turn taking and being patient.
For snack this week we have been enjoying toast, apples, and banana.
See you next week!
Amber and Paula 😊

Summary for week ending 6/5/22

Hi everyone!
This week we have done lots of playing outside on our path in the sand. The sand has gone really dry and we are so interested in watching it run quickly through the sieves. It moves so differently when it is dry! We said it felt really soft.
On Tuesday we went to visit our local shop because we had a milk emergency! It’s lovely to get out into our community. We saw lots of people around the village and they were always so happy to see us walking nicely!
We’ve focused on looking at some numbers this week. Looking at numerals and seeing if we can clap that many times because we are learning that things other than objects can be counted. On Thursday we had a great number activity led by Paula where ‘Miss Poppy the troll’ needed help getting the right number of students into her schoolhouse each day.
We’ve still loved playing with the cars and garage this week.
We’ve also been making lots of enclosures with the blocks and lego – one child made Jurassic park!
On Thursday we visited our pre-school garden and had a good run around. We played on the climbing equipment and even played bat and ball. We looked at the beautiful blossom growing on the conker tree. We also saw the Big School PE teacher. She came to say hello to us and introduce herself ready for September.

More garden fun to finish off our week on Friday. We're going to be spending more time in the garden to help us get used to being in the big school grounds. Plus - it's super fun! We saw a few of our friends from last year! We made lovely salad. We laid the table with a flower for everyone.
We made letters using lots of different equipment. A L out of sticks, a B and an A out of stickle bricks! So clever.
For snacks this week we have enjoyed yogurt, rice crispies and waffles.

Summary for Week Ending 29th April 2022
Hi everyone!
Welcome back to preschool. We hope you had a wonderful Easter break. We cannot believe it is already the final term of the school year.
We will be focusing on school readiness for our leavers this term. This means things like using the toilet independently, writing some of the letters in our name, putting our own coats and shoes on, and sitting nicely on the carpet to enjoy a story.

This week we have had great fun playing in the corn flour goo. On Monday we did lots of scooping and pouring with it. On Wednesday we used paintbrushes to make marks in it and added yellow food colouring.
On Tuesday we got the tunnel out and hunted for numbers at the other end.
We’ve focused on making the sounds of some of our jolly phonics by really getting silly and making our mouths make the sounds for S, A and T. It was funny!
We have been enjoying playing picnics and journeys in our role play this week. We’ve had lots of aeroplane rides and bus trips!
We’ve loved playing with the cars and garage this week after a donation of cars from one of our friends. It was so lovely to have some new toys to play with and we really enjoyed them!

We did a bit of football on Friday to finish off our week, burn off some energy and make some big movements whilst practicing our kicking AND team work skills! We went up to our lovely park and enjoyed the big open space there! We had the whole field all to ourselves!
For snacks this week we have enjoyed banana, apple and toast.
See you on Tuesday 2rd after the bank holiday! Have lovely long weekend.
Amber and Paula 😊

Easter fun

8/4/2022

We are still looking at spring this week but beginning to talk about Easter too.
We have been making some lovely Easter cards using circles to create chicken shapes! We love how they turned out. We had to cut the circles out ourselves which was quite tricky to go round and round.
On Tuesday we made some rice crispy cakes and decorated them with a baby chick and a spring flower. They were really yummy. We had to break the chocolate up and melt it before using our strong mixing arms to turn the rice crispies from white to brown. We made enough to give one to all our pre-school friends.
We have been loving the lego again this week. On Thursday we worked as a team and made a huge 3 part structure!
We’ve also been looking at shapes. Amber threw us a beanbag and we had to catch it. The beanbags were all different shapes and we had to work out what shape we had before we threw it back.
We have done some pom pom sorting. We put the pom poms into the tuff spot with lots of different spoons, pincers and plastic scissors. We added different sized containers too.
It was fab to see how we sorted the pom poms by size and colour.
Outside we added the shells into the sand and had fun burying them and digging them up again.

On Friday afternoon we had a little visit to the village park because there weren’t many children and it was such a lovely afternoon! We had great fun on the pirate ship and made friends with some other children who were visiting too!

Remember that the next two weeks are half term. We will see you back at pre-school for more fun on Monday 25th April. Have a lovely break.
Amber and Paula 😊

Summary for Week Ending 1st April 2022

1/4/2022

Hi everyone!
Spring has sprung and we are looking at all the baby animals that are being born. We are looking at the changes in the flowers and trees too.
We have been making some fluffy spring lambs on the craft table for a new wall display.
We’ve been playing with the farm in our small world area and playing with the farm fuzzy felts, the trees in different seasons and the mothers and babies puzzle on the puzzle table.
On Tuesday we went on a walk around our village to see all the spring flowers blooming. We listened to the different birds we could hear singing too!
We have been loving the lego this week and have been making some amazing structures with them. Some even had different levels.
We’ve been looking at the letters that are in our names, not just the letter that our names start with.
On Wednesday and Thursday we made some spring daffodils after being inspired by the ones we saw on our walk.
On Friday we looked at the life cycles of lots of different things like frogs, butterflies, trees and ducks! We also made some beautiful creations with the textures box and talked about how things felt soft or looked shiny.

See you next week for one more week of fun before half term!
Amber and Paula 😊
