This week we have been looking at making scenery for our nativity play. We are looking at star shapes and rectangles; beginning to categorise shapes according to size and property is something we learn at an early age and noticing shapes in the environment is something we try to do in preschool. We have also made some sand dunes for our scenery, we used gloopy glue and glue sticks and then sprinkled sand onto the glue - come in and have a look! Learning to control simple tools to effect change is a skill we can learn at preschool.
On the construction table, we played with the blocks. Blocks are a brilliant way for us to develop our gross and fine motor skills because we get to handle things of different sizes and we can try to make them balance On the writing table, some of the children practised writing their names ready for their Christmas cards. We looked at all the letters we have learnt so far at preschool and had a story that was about some of the characters we have met like inky mouse and the snake. Letter and sound of the week this week is "g" Last Saturday we had our Nearly New Sale in the school hall and raised about £650 for the preschool as well as nearly £1060 for our sellers. We also donated eight bags for Bags2School and most of the remaining unsold and donated items went to a charity initiative called "Families Together" which is based in Sheffield and works with disadvantaged families, providing counselling, information and support.
In preschool this week we have been learning lots of songs for our Christmas nativity and have joined them together into a repertoire. On the craft table, we have started "making Bethlehem" for our wall display and have been making stars for the night sky. On the back of each star, we wrote our name; writing our own name is something we start to learn at preschool. On the maths table we have been playing with number puzzles and looking at recognising our number (our age). We have been out-and-about walking around the village and have visited the school hall for our weekly PE session. Soon it will be nativity time and so with that in mind, we are beginning to start preparations. This week we are looking at using our imagination and discovering how much fun role play can be and how it can help our confidence grow. Introducing narrative into our play is something we do at this time of year at Preschool. We have also started to practice the songs we will sing.
On the games table, we are looking at maths games that help us to recite our numbers and learn how to match numbers to a quantity. some of us looked at making our own simple maths problems. On the construction table we have been playing with the magnets and on the writing table we looked at writing all of the letters we have been learning each week. Some of us looked at sounding out our letters into words "p-a-t", "s-a-t", "t-a-p" and printed out letters on the computer to stick in place in these words. Letter and sound of the week is "d" This week we have been looking at Bonfire Night and on the craft table we have been making bonfire pictures and firework pictures using glue and coloured glittery sand. This has allowed us to experiment with different textures and helped us to develop an interest in how things feel when we are creating our artwork.
Later on in the week we made our own poppies to remember the soldiers. We did some wonderful cutting and sticking and spoke about why we were making poppies. On the games table, we had out the shopping game. Learning to take turns and resolve any problems with our friends is something we do at preschool. Learning to initiate conversations and form relationships is important to us. With the lovely sunny weather, we have spent time in our garden. Our garden is getting ready for the colder winter weather to come. We have also played with the parachute this week which is always great fun. On the construction table, we played with the cogs and wheels and had lots of fun making all sort of things. Then we used our imagination and pretended the objects were something else. Letter / sound of the week is 'm' |
