The Little Red Hen

24/10/2014

Picture

Above is a picture of our fantastic wall display.  Look at or brilliant leaf printing!

This week we have been looking at the story of the Little Red Hen.  Sharing and helping our friends is important to us and this tale helps us learn to help others and our friends.

On the games table we have played with the fairy puzzles and the Maxi Coloredo (a construction games which develops creative skills and helps us to follow patterns).

We have had a nature table out with pine cones, sticks, bark and conkers and we brought the trucks to play there and later on the dinosaurs too.

On the craft table we drew some fruit and looked at 'The Little Gardeners Guide' and then in the garden we planted apple seeds which we found in the apples we had for snack, hopefully they will grow!

Our letter of the week this week was 'm'

We hope you have a lovely half term holiday and we will see you back on Monday 3rd November

Hibernation

17/10/2014

This week we have started to look at hibernation..... a very long word.  Showing care and concern for the environment is very important to pre-school.

On the craft table, we used modelling clay and made hedgehogs.  We were wondering if our hedgehogs would hibernate at home!

We have also looked at 2-D and 3-D shapes today. Beginning to categorise objects according to their properties is something we do at preschool. Showing an interest in shapes is fun.

As well as playing with the blocks on the construction table, we rummaged through the dressing-up clothes and everyone picked their favourite outfits to dress up in.

We have been out on walks around the village this week, looking at the village and the houses in it.  And we felt the weather, it was starting to feel a bit colder.

Our letter of the week this week was 'n'.

Harvest and Dancing

10/10/2014

This week we are continuing to look at Autumn and at harvest time.  Come in and look at our lovely Autumn display.

On the puzzle and game table we played with Gruffalo dominoes and with a puzzle which looks at different ages of children and how tall they are at that age.

We have started to learn about some basic ICT skills by looking at a very simple program on the computer and on the construction table we have had the cogs and wheels out as well as the duplo.

In the garden, we have looked at the trees and the ground and the plants that are growing and changing and preparing for the next season of winter.  We collected leaves to use for leaf printing and for some lovely tree pictures.

We have spent some time this week listening to music and enjoying dancing.  We have experimented with how to respond to different music - it is fun to express our feelings through dance and movement.

Our letter of the week this week is 'i' and we have been looking at the sound it makes - "inky mouse".  We are also looking at rhyming words and helping the children to be interested in rhyming strings

Autumn.....(continued)

2/10/2014

This week we are still looking at autumn and the changes that occur around us during autumn.

On the puzzle table we had some autumn jigsaws out and some of them had as many as 20 pieces.  We also had some puzzles which show the life-cycles of butterflies, frogs and trees

On the craft table we have been doing some leaf printing - look out for our autumn wall display soon!

We have been building towers and counting the blocks on the construction table - this helps us with both our fine motor skills  and our counting.

We have had the doors of preschool open most of the week so that children could choose to play inside or outside.  We had the sand pit open and set up a table for drawing outside as well as chalking on the path.  We have also visited the garden and looked at the beautiful season of autumn

We have spent some time this week practicing our quiet reading and concentrating.  Our story on a couple of days has been a special story which helped with our listening.  There was no book and we used our imaginations.

The letter of the week this week is 'p'
