This week we are looking at autumn. We are looking at nuts and seeds and cones and leaves and conkers. We are looking at changes in the climate as the weather becomes colder and in the environment through changes in plants and trees.
On the craft table we made some conker pictures using painted conkers and paper lined in a washing up bowl. We have also done some printing with apples; we are going to make an autumn wall display. On the maths table, we are looking at shapes and played with some shape jigsaws and shape matching games. We have been on autumn walks round the village, looking at how the village is changing during the season of autumn. In the garden, we have played at racing using big big steps. On the games table, we have been playing with the threading beads. This helps with our fine motor skills, our counting skills and our creativity. This week we are looking at the letter 't' and the sound it makes. Very excitingly, our Sainsburys voucher order arrived which was our new pop-up tunnel. All of the children loved crawling through the tunnel. THANK YOU to everyone who collected the vouchers for us. This week we have continued to look at the topic 'all about me'. On the craft table we looked at our faces and identified our eyes, nose, mouth and hair and some of the children made wonderful pictures of themselves.
On the puzzle table we looked at number games and used lots of number language to help us talk and learn about numbers e.g. 'how many', 'count', 'lots', 'one more, 'next one'. We also played a matching game to see which numbers look the same and if we could recognise them. On the writing table we looked at writing our names and how to hold a pencil. We also developed a circle into a face. A face we know and a face that is very important to us. We have also visited the garden, playing on the slide and climbing frame and in the sand. Our letter of the week is 's' and we have been learning about the sound it makes We have had a very exciting first week back at pre-school, welcoming quite a few new children as well as catching up with our old friends. And not only that, OFSTED turned up on our very first day back to inspect the Pre-School! We will let everyone have the result of this as soon as we receive the report.
We are going to be looking at the topic "all about me" over the next few weeks. It will help us make friends and learn about our pre-school and what a wonderful place it is. We have spent time in the garden and played on the slide and in the sand and have done some weeding and collected apples from our tree. One of the dads kindly made the apples into some delicious apple turnovers which we had for snack on Thursday - thankyou! On the writing table we experimented with all the mark making tools and this helped us to become familiar with all the equipment we can play with and learn from. And on the puzzle table we made our favourite jigsaws and made friends and chatted as we learnt to construct and concentrate. |
