This week we started our new topic about shapes. Looking at shapes in the environment helps us to learn and understand that shapes can represent objects. We are going to make a wall display with lots of shapes so look out for it....
On the craft table, we looked at drawing and cutting out shapes, particularly triangles and squares. Some children put these shapes to gether to make houses just like those in the village! On the carpet, we constructed a very looooong train track for our trains to travel on. We looked at matching and identifying numbers and quantity. We used different toys in preschool , counting them and trying to work out which number represents which small group. We also looked at making comparisons between quantity and learnt that numbers can identify how many are in a set. We have spent time running through the jolly phonics songs which is great fun and helps us to learn our letters and sounds. This week we have been making our own playdough and everybody joined in. And finally the weather has been nice enough to get out into our garden and play with some new pots and pans for our mud kitchen. Welcome back after the holidays! What an exciting start we have had as it was shrove Tuesday on our first day back and Chinese New Year on 19th Feb - Happy Year of the Goat/Sheep!
On Tuesday we made pancakes. All the children helped as we measured the flour and cracked the eggs and measured and added the milk and water. We even added a perfect pinch of salt. Cheryl cooked the pancakes - she even had a go at tossing them - and all the children ate them with a squeeze of orange juice. They were yummy! On the construction table we played with blocks and looked at the larger blocks and using them to make towers, as well as counting them. On the craft table we started looking at making books. We wrote our names on the books and numbered the pages. We are also looking at stories and have discovered that a story usually has a beginning, a middle and an end. Also on the craft table, we made dragon masks for Chinese New Year |
