This week we have been looking at the story 'Handa's Surprise' which is set in Africa and is about a little girl who surprises her friend with a basket of fruit. We have played the wild animal lotto game which helped us to look at the animals in the story. We have also tried some interesting fruits for our snacks this week, bananas, pineapple and mango - delicious but very slippery! We have also opened up the doors of preschool and done some chalking on the path to help with our mark-making and enjoyed racing cars down the slope.
![]() Because nothing says romance like a bear....?! Actually we couldn't find the heart shaped cutter for our valentines biscuits and so we made bears instead. Everybody had a go at measuring, mixing and cutting and we all had a yummy biscuit to take home. On the craft table this week we had free choice of fabric and textured paper and used our snipping and cutting skills to produce some wonderful pictures; at preschool we learn to value how each child expresses themselves creatively.
On the games table we have played the shopping game and matching pairs. Learning to play together and take turns is something we do at preschool. On Thursday the puppets came to perform for us! Each child had a puppet and told a story with their puppet. It was lovely to see the children express their own ideas and thoughts. ![]() We have been learning about Chinese New Year this week. We have made our own Chinese dragon from a box and we all helped to make him, some of us painted his head and his tongue, some cut out eyes and some cut out and stuck on his rather fantastic golden eyebrows! We watched a video of people doing a dragon dance and, inspired by this, we danced around with our own dragon. We took it in turns to be the head of the dragon and we got out the musical instruments and beat our drums for our dragon to dance to. On Monday, we had our first session back in the hall at big school now that their building work is finished and so we had lots of space to run around and practice our dragon dancing. We have also tried out marking some Chinese writing (please look at the wall display) and on some days, we have eaten prawn crackers for our snack. As well as this, we learnt how to use chopsticks which was lots of fun (though we didn't use them to eat our prawn crackers!). |
